Description

Amazon River Dolphin, painted using a photo reference with permission.
Based on Baby at the Duisburg Zoo... not too sure how I did with markings etc., never seen a Boto in person.

There doesn't seem to be very much Boto art on dA, and I was looking for a challenge. The colouration was very difficult, as was the texture. I wasn't sure after all the trouble I went to with the colour, whether I should put in water webbing... but in the end I decided it was worth it. Tried the same water method as my previous painting to see if I could replicate it, and so far so good :D
Really enjoyed this one! :)

The first thing that jumps out at me are the wonderful colours and effects of this piece. The texture of the dolphin itself is very well done, and looks very realistic. I love all the little details like the scars on the back and fins.
The water-webbing is a great effect and is used superbly here. ^^ It makes the dolphin seem more real and actually connected his/her surroundings.
I think the tail could use a bit more work. If you compare it to the rest of the dolphin, it seems less realistic and I think it could use a bit more shading. Otherwise it's awesome <img src="e.deviantart.com/emoticons/c/c…" width="25" height="25" alt="" title="Clap" />
Also as a small touch you could put a few bubbles in; to make the water seem more real. x3
I think this piece is great, and promotes this endangered dolphin. Well done! <img src="e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)" />
