I Support Humane Captivity by Chaotica-I I Support Humane Captivity by Chaotica-I
Feel free to use this stamp if you'd like to!

I've been meaning to put something like this together for a while... and finally got around to it.

I am NOT an ignorant fool who sticks with my beliefs for no other reason than my own lack of knowledge or consideration. In fact, I am very well-researched and well-informed on all sides of the captivity issue, and this is my opinion... an opinion that I am entitled to as an individual. You are also entitled to your own opinion, and that opinion does not have to agree with mine. Although I am open to intelligent discourse about the topic, I am not in any way interested in an aggressive confrontation spurred forth by popular misinformation.

Ahem... about comments...
If I find comments on this stamp confrontational or disrespectful, I will simply disable comments and hide any that I find objectionable. This is my stamp - a piece of work in my gallery like any other - not an ideal location for others to grandstand.

HUMANE Captivity...not Human Captivity
I originally designed the stamp to simply read "I Support Captivity", however... this is not really the case. I do not blindly support all zoos and aquariums, for there are still some in various parts of the world that adhere to barbaric practices to the detriment of the reputation of all others. I do not believe in broad generalizing judgements for the most part, for quite often, such blanket statements are the result of ignorance.

Great stamp template can be found here:

Nice stamp! I'm glad there are people who share my opinion and can have civilized discussions instead of beating each other up. I love zoos and aquariums because they let you see amazing animals up close while educating people about them. At the same time I'm against any places that abuse animals and strictly use them to make money. I've only been to SeaWorld one time and it was so much fun. While I think SeaWorld has done some things wrong, I also think they have done a lot of good. I can't stand those people that think they know everything just because they just watched one "documentary". I understand where they're coming from, but do they have to be so mean about it? One example is rake marks. It's normal for a dolphin or whale to have some rake marks. In fact it's hard to find a wild one that doesn't have rakes. I've read from many sources that raking is just a way these animals establish dominance and communicate. Anyway, thanks for making this stamp! :D

Oh wow its been a while since Ive spoken about this subject on DeviantART with other people but Im much MUCH more educated than I was a few years ago and while I see where most anti captivists come from, and its nice to know people care about the animals, the simple fact is that they CANT be put back into the wild. If they could, and if the wild was so welcoming to them, I would be fine with it. I think the problem is people thing about what they believe is right and instantly think thats whats best for the animals when in reality thats what lead to Keiko's death. For me, its not really Im pro or against it, its more of a whats best for the animals is that they remain in the park's care. Like you said a while ago somewhere, I dont support all zoo and aquariums and if the animals are mistreated than they should be moved to a park where theyre well cared for. At first I thought a sea pen would be great but I did research and thatd probably stress the animals out due to constant climate change and all these strange new things to get used to. Thats why I want to work at Seaworld when Im older. I want to make sure that while these animals are in our care that they have the best life they can have. Honestly, I dont get the ban on breeding....you cant just stop animals from breeding, especially animals this size. The only way to do that would be to separate them, which is something Seaworld is backlashed for...anywho I love this stamp and I feel bad for not leaving a comment on it sooner

This stamp is so accurate, so hell yes please!

Not very long ago I used to be the kind to get all sassy and mean over someone disagreeing with me about human rights issues etc., but I've totally dropped that habit. First of all, in the end, I'm a kind and empathethic person and I'm very well able to understand the reason why some people disagree with me about certain things. I'm able to think in other ways than just the way I prefer to think. I also understand that plenty of people are not even educated about the subject we're talking about, or have grown up in a certain kind of value environment, so they can't really help having ended up thinking that way. I do think that plenty of homophobes never got the chance to learn friendlier attitudes towards the LBGT, there's a lot of ignorance, prejudices and fear. None of the formerly mentioned can be removed by yelling at these people and being all rude. Even though I myself am LBGT, even I used to be a little homophobic a long time ago, but I just learned out of it, because I wanted to be accepting and supportive for myself, and for my fellow LBGT+ people. And because I realized that it's kinda dumb that it's okay for me to be gay but cringe when others are gay, so... You know. And no one else convinced me to make this change of opinion, I chose this opinion myself. No one ever forced it on me or attacked me.

People change opinions when they choose to, by themselves. It's impossible to force anyone to think in a certain way, but instead, you can provide other people "options"; you can present others your own, differing opinions to them, neutrally, so that they can reason by themselves whether they want to change their views or not. Yeah, I think that human rights things are not a matter of opinion, everyone should have equal rights anyway, but achieving that goal in society takes a little diplomacy.

And so on. It's never constructive or proggresive to get all naive, black-and-white and ignore where others' opinions are coming from. All kinds of opinions have a certain "history" behind them, and very often that history is easy to guess. For example, two youths, another one coming from a liberal family, and another one coming from a conservative family. They probably disagree about a lot of stuff. And we can all see why. It's good to aknowledge how people who disagree with you are feeling. Like "I know why you think like that because of the cultural environment you come from, but also, don't you think that...." <--- Or something like that. It's never impossible to understand.

If we want a world of love and peace, we won't achieve that by hatred. And intelligent reasoning, also using sources as back-up, is a good thing.

Thank you! I can't even look up killer whales without seeing anything related to "Blackfish." Yes, people died. Yes, there were accidents. But those always come when people try to interact with naturally dangerous animals, humane or not.

Exactly my opinion! Can't even have a decent photo of Corky without SeaWorldofHurt (PeTA's ridiculous website) popping up and asking people to ki-, I mean free Corky.

Have you heard of California's new law? It says SeaWorld can't breed the whales anymore, and the ones in captivity will get a better tank and there will be an educational program instead of a show, where people talk about the whales and give facts about them.

Of course I heard about it (sorry, just mad right now). I thought that no whales in captivity can breed?
And I also thought that Project Blue World was canceled. Are you referring to Project Blue Pebble, the revamp of the stage and pools?

No problem!  Oh goodness, I know.  It's like when a terrible ship pollutes all of the fanart of a certain character...except for worse.  Because Blackfish is actually impacting real things; a real facility, real people, and real animals.  Very aggravating.
Couldn't have said it better myself.  Even our own domestic dogs kill 20-30 people a year!  Why aren't the anti-SW saying "free the psychotic dogs"?

Nope, but trust me, some people don't see a difference between humane animal captivity and human slavery. They say that the two are the same.

They also compare hunting to genicide, meat eating to cannibalism, all kinds of "highly logical" comparisons.

Just thought I'd make the comment now, not everyone against captivity is bad and wishes to start flames at all. :/ I'm against cetacean captivity unless rehabilitation, and I have no intentions on flaming someone for their own opinion.

I absolutely agree with you. Not everyone who is anti-cap will start flame wars, but I've encountered many people who refuse to have a calm and open discussion about it (but in all fairness, I've also encountered many aggressive and unpleasant pro-caps too). I had several people leave nasty messages about my photos. That's just not the way to talk to people. I respect anyone who has formed and education opinion either way, and who presents themselves in a reasonable way.
Thanks for being one of the reasonable people! :)

Its so nice to see decent people forming well informed opinions! Its a shame that a minority ruins it for the majority who are in fact well informed people. Im personally again captivity unless its for rehabilitation purposes and especially against captive animals 'preforming'. Like Koikarpz said, I too have no intention of flaming people or starting pointless arguments. There are much better ways to make a difference :)
