Lava Dragon Hatchling Hairclip

Description

I've successfully hatched my first horde of dragons! These little fellows are rapidly taking over the whole house, and systematically driving my cats insane. They are looking for good homes. No prior dragon-handling experience is required as this species remains quite small for hundreds of years, and is no more harmful to humans that kittens... kittens with tiny flamethrowers in their mouths... ;)

These warm blooded creatures are well suited to nearly every habitat imaginable and are highly adaptable. They are particularly well suited to domestication, as they love to eat all manner of household pests (including insects as small as fruit flies, and rodents as large as rats). Although they prefer to forage for their own food, if they've already consumed any pests in your house, they can be fed raw or cooked meats, fish, and the occasional piece of fruit as a treat. They LOVE chocolate, but shouldn't be allowed to consume too much as it makes them sluggish. Their tails are important for flying, and do not grow back if broken, so take care not to step on them. They may be harmful if consumed by your other pets, so be sure to keep your hatching away from your dog or cat.
These dragons establish close bonds with their owners during their first few years of life. They are incapable of "breathing fire" until they are several decades old. Upon hatching, dragon colour patterns typically fall into one of two categories:
  1. Brightly Coloured: to warn predators of their toxicity. They produce two chemicals which are used in the creation of the fire that they "breathe" - the two are expelled from the mouth where they mix, creating a volatile reaction. If a hatchling is eaten in its entirety, the toxic effect can be deadly to most predators. Not to mention the fact that they taste terrible. They are not poisonous if handled however.
  2. Naturally Coloured: to blend in with their surroundings. Common colours include green, brown, and grey. These dragons rely on their ability to blend in in order to avoid being eaten.
This hatchling is one of the former, and features a dazzling pattern resembling hardening lava. He is most active during the day, and loves to spend the morning basking in the warmth of the sun.

He is available for sale here: www.artbyaelia.com/store/p137/…

Ok, seriously though, this dragon hatchling has been hand-cast in resin from an original sculpt. Each piece is modified slightly during casting so that no two are in exactly the same pose (I vary the curve of the tail and neck, as well as the length of the horns). They are carefully hand-painted with great attention to detail and given several coats of varnish to protect the paint.
This dragon comes in the form of a hair clip. When worn it appears as though the dragon has landed on your hair to rest. Not recommended for small children because small pieces may present a hazard.
Dragons can be custom ordered to be the colour(s) of your choice. They are also available in unpainted white resin so that you can paint it yourself (or leave it white).
