New Beginnings by Chaotica-I New Beginnings by Chaotica-I
Digital Painting of Kiska and Ike, Orcas at Marineland.
Painted in Photoshop CS5, using several of my own photos as reference.
About 8 hours of work.

Please note that I don't have time to say "thank you" for every favourite, but I appreciate them all nonetheless! Thank you all for your support!!!

I know, it isn't my most interesting work... or my best. It isn't really a spectacular image, but when I saw Kiska and Ike together, I knew I was going to paint them. Watching the pair was fascinating. Ike frequently swam right beneath her, brushing up against her softly. It was beautiful.
I missed seeing Kiska last season, she was the main reason I went to Marineland every year when I was a child. She is the first cetacean that I ever loved... watching her on Saturday made me feel five years old again, all full of wonder

so nice to hear that the 2 are back together :)
This painting (almost wrote photo :XD: ) is full of emotion. I like it also because I can recognize them easily. It is such a pity though that we have to protect our art with these watermarks so excessively... I started to put more and bigger watermarks on my photos, too now, because they got stolen again recently... so annoying.

I was thrilled to see them together again! They seem to be doing ok together as well :)
Thank you so much! :D
Yes, it really is sad. Some websites have disabled right-clicking, which doesn't prevent screen caps, but does stop a lot of people from stealing... I wish DeviantArt would do that!

What do you mean it's not "spectacular" >.< of course it is! I know you've probably heard this in many comments, but it truly did look like a photo to me, and still does!

I adore you, really.
I love Orcas, but there are few artists who work on them. Usually dolphins are more appreciated then the 'killer whale'.
However, it's really beautiful and so tender.

There are a few really great orca artists, but I agree that bottlenose dolphins tend to get the most attention.

I don't know the details, but I know that they weren't getting along very well. Ike is like a teenage boy, and Kiska is an old woman... Ike was always trying to mate with her, and driving her insane!

It's so great that Ike and Kiska are back together!

I love the simple (no insult intended) coloring of this. You even added the new scratches on Kiska's eye patch.

Thanks! :D

I am not a digital artist, so my take on this might be slightly different than other artists, but I have to say...it's beautiful. The orcas are terrificic (yours always are), but what really stands out to me in this piece is the way you painted the water. The lines are so graceful and simple, and they make the water ripple and flow effortlessly. Spectacular job.

Thank you so much! I've tried about a million ways to paint water, and found that keeping it relatively simple can be surprisingly effective.
Thanks again! :D
