Digital Painting of Isis and her Calf, Belugas at Marineland
Painted from scratch in Photoshop CS4, using a couple of my own photos as reference.
About 9 hours of work.
Please note that if you but don't comment, I probably won't get a chance to say thank you... so thanks in advance!
After seeing Isis and her calf for the first time, I really wanted to get to work on a painting of the pair. I pretty much wind up doing a mother/calf painting everytime I see a newborn... what can I say? It's inspiring!
I got a couple of photos that weren't great (noisy, blurry, and overexposed), but I liked the poses... so I decided to paint them. I liked Isis' pose in the photo, but didn't realize until I started painting that it was a VERY challenging pose to paint! Nearly impossible! They have such odd rolls of blubber, made it super difficult... but I'm happy with the outcome. Worth the effort
Tried something a little different with the water webbing too, and I like it
In part, it was a nice learning experience... I did a painting of Isis and Horus, her first calf in 2007 when he was born... it was horrible! It is still in my gallery, and can be seen here:
